I'm Selling in Augusta 6/9-11 and Now I've Got a Patreon
My next live appearance, complete with new items to sell, and my new Patreon
Coming Back to JoeFest and Bringing New Book, Stickers
My next convention, my first in-person appearance since early April, will be the JoeFest Toy and Comic Convention in Augusta, GA from June 9 to June 11, 2023. This will be my third time attending; the first was in late 2020 when The Atlanta Incursion was new and DragonCon was canceled due to COVID and the second was in 2022.
And unlike 2022, I’ve got a new book — Serpent Sword, the long-awaited sequel to my “Dark Tower meets Game of Thrones” novel Battle for the Wastelands. It’s a bit longer than the first, but not too much — the goal is to avoid each installment getting longer and longer until it starts to look like the Harry Potter or A Song of Ice and Fire (the book series that inspired the HBO program Game of Thrones).
I’ll also be bringing stickers based on the cover for The Thing In The Woods I made using the website StickerMule. I sold a few at the April events I mentioned in earlier emails, but from my recollection JoeFest is much larger.
Already On Patreon? You Can Subscribe For Premium Content There!
When I sent out my newsletter asking my readers what kind of Substack fiction they’d pay for, I posted the link in a Facebook group I’m a member of. Matthew Bowman, the group’s administrator, recommended I not limit myself to Substack, since Patreon is so much larger. Think Amazon versus rivals like Barnes and Noble or Kobo. I did some looking and Patreon has 8M paying subscribers, while Substack has only 2M.
So here’s my Patreon site. It’s $8/month (unlike Substack there’s no way to discount for a full year) and those who subscribe will get all the goodies I post for premium subscribers here on Substack. Right now it’s mostly artwork from when I was in college, as well as a faux news article from The Thing in the Woods and a deleted scene from Battle for the Wastelands. However, later this month I’ll be introducing my readers to new regions of the Wastelands world and in the near future I’m going to give subscriber-only fiction a spin. If you’ve already got a Patreon account, signing up there will be easier for you than setting up a completely new account on Substack.
(And if you’re interested in subscriber fiction, be it on Substack or Patreon, reply to this email and let me know what you’d be interested in.)
