In my debut horror novel The Thing in the Woods, a mysterious man in black appears twice, once to basically troll the evil cult leader Phil and the second time after the book’s climax. In its sequel The Atlanta Incursion, this man gains a name — Thomas Bolton — and it’s revealed that he works for the U.S. government, in particular an agency called MJ-12.

The third book in the “Long War” series I’m working on now, The Walking Worm, depicts the day-to-day operations of MJ-12 circa 2012. Although a couple options in the subscriber fiction poll were for stories set in MJ-12’s past, I don’t go into a lot of detail about the organization’s history in the two canonical books. To see the history of MJ-12 I’ve come up with, sign up for a premium subscription on Substack or check out my Patreon.
