Summer Library Fun, THING Discount, and a March Convention
Late 1980s library story-time comes full circle with my book in that library's successor. Also a massive online e-book sale and the Atlanta Sci-Fi and Fantasy Expo is coming to Northlake Mall
When I was in preschool, my mother often took me (and possibly my younger brother too — my little sister was born later) to what was then the East Marietta Branch Library for books, story-time, etc. I can still remember the story of the Tailypo, which must’ve been for some kind of Halloween thing. Here is what it looked like back in the late 1980s through relatively recently; the original library is gone, replaced by the Sewell Mill Library and Cultural Center.
This past summer, I went to check out their Mini-Con, which they’ve been doing for years, as a possible future book-selling event. Look what I found in the fiction section:
That copy of The Atlanta Incursion wasn’t signed, so it wasn’t one of the early copies I’d donated. I knew the Cobb County library system had bought a number of my books via Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing Expanded Distribution system, but this was the first time I’d seen one “in the wild.”
So, with the permission of the librarian, I signed it and made a reference to having attended Mini-Con that day. I also made a Borat joke (I wrote that the Mini-Con was “very nice”), which might be a bit dated considering the first movie came out in 2006 and the second in 2020.
It’s nice to see things coming full-circle. I remember finding the Tailypo story scary (I was probably four or five at the time) and now I’m scaring others in that same place. :)
The Thing in the Woods E-Book Discount Continues
As part of Hans G. Schantz’s Based Book Sale, I’m offering the e-book version of The Thing in the Woods in all marketplaces for only $0.99. The sale began on Feb. 12, but it will continue through Feb. 19.
Here’s the direct Amazon link. Here’s the Universal Book Link, which includes links to non-Amazon providers like Apple, Kobo, etc.
Regardless of whether you like the political presumptions, there are a LOT of free and discounted e-books to be had in the Based Book Sale. Longtime friends of the newsletter Christopher G. Nuttall and C.S. Johnson are participating. You can also get at least one book from the Honor Harrington series, Robert Howard’s collected tales of Conan the Barbarian, and a bunch of stories from Edgar Rice Burroughs. Lots of pulp, heroic fantasy, and even a number of Weird Westerns.
Returning to the Atlanta Sci-Fi and Fantasy Expo March 15-16
Once upon a time, I attended the Atlanta Sci-Fi and Fantasy Expo, sponsored by Challengers Games and Comics, at North DeKalb Mall. Then COVID came, the 2020 event was shut down, and North DeKalb Mall ended up getting demolished.
Well, March 15-16, the Expo is back on! Challengers has set up a new location at Northlake Mall, so that’s where the show will be. I know at least some of you signed up there before, so let’s help bring the Expo back to life.
Since the last time I sold books at ASFFE, I’ve put out pretty much the entire Battle for the Wastelands series as well as The Atlanta Incursion and The Walking Worm, the sequels to The Thing in the Woods. Here’s a chance for you to catch up on my work. :)
